Cowan out for spring

Dean no longer with football team

Arkansas receiver D'Arthur Cowan watches warmups prior to the Razorbacks' Red-White game on April 20, 2013 in Fayetteville.

— Arkansas will be without wide receiver D'Arthur Cowan during the rest of spring practice, Razorbacks coach Bret Bielema said Friday.

Cowan will focus on academics, Bielema said, during the duration of Arkansas' 12 spring practices. Cowan played in six games last season, catching four passes for 26 yards.

Bielema also said tight end Demetrius Dean is not currently with the team and likely won't return because of a lack of credit hours. Dean signed with Arkansas in 2010 but didn't make it to campus until he redshirted in 2011.

The Fayetteville native didn't record any offensive stats in his two seasons.
