Monday recruiting tidbits

Jalen Merrick has become one of the more highly recruited offensive line prospects in the nation with only two seasons under his belt.

He's has acculmated 24 offers after only playing one year of football and is expecting the Hogs to offer in the near future. Offensive line coach Sam Pittman and graduate assistant Eric Mateos are talking to Merrick.

Running back Karan Higdon, 5-9, 190, 4.46 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Sarasota, (Fla.) Riverview plans to visit Arkansas in late June. He said running backs coach Joel Thomas talks to him about things outside of football and that appeals to him. He also likes that Thomas has developed a relationship with his mother.

Higdon, who's committed to South Florida, said Arkansas is the only school has plans to visit next month at this time. Video highlights CLICK HERE

He plans to make his five official visits.

As reported on Friday, linebacker Derrick Graham, 6-4, 218 of Wauchula, Fla. Hardee will visit Arkansas on June 8. He said defensive coordinator Robb Smith, who visited the school on Wednesday, likes his length and athleticism. He has nine offers, including Arkansas, Miss State, FIU, FAU and others. Offensive lineman Dalton Ford, 6-4, 295 of Webb City, Mo. plans to attend the Hogs' June camp. He has offers from Illinois and Syracuse and lists them as his favorites, but has Arkansas his No. 1 school of the ones who have not offered him. Video highlights CLICK HERE

He said he's been direct messaging graduate assistant Eric Mateos on Twitter.

Wake Forest's offensive coordinator will visit Conway on Wednesday to check on sophomore quarterback Breylin Smith. Video highlights CLICK HERE

Arkansas tight end commitment Austin Cantrell helped Roland's 4x100 meter relay place 5th at the Class 4A state meet with a 43.63 while running a 10.5 split as the anchor on Saturday. He won the shot put title with a throw of 55-3 on Friday.

Jonesboro sophomore running back Denzel Mitchell said he'll move to Hamliton, Alabama after finishing the school year. He has offers from Arkansas, Ole Miss and Arkansas State.

Arkansas senior associate coach and linebackers coach Randy Shannon visited Memphis Whitehaven today to check on Joshua McMillon, who's rated the No. 5 inside linebacker in the nation by ESPN.

Mississippi State has offered Arkansas defensive end-tight end commitment JaMario Bell of Junction City. The Bulldogs, La. Tech and UAM visited the school today.

Arkansas has extended an offer to offensive lineman Mirko Jurkovich of Bradenton IMG Academy in Florida. Razorback defensive end commitment Hjalte Froholdt will attend this school in the fall.
