FAYETTEVILLE — It took seven innings, but Trey Killian finally got enough run support to pick up a win Thursday night in Columbia, Mo.
Clark Eagan’s two-run home run in the seventh inning gave Arkansas a 4-2 lead just before Killian was removed from the game and Brian Anderson’s grand slam in the ninth added insurance runs as the Razorbacks won 9-4.
Making his fifth-straight start as Arkansas’ designated hitter, Eagan finished the game 3-for-3 and walked twice. He is 9-for-15 over the five-game stretch. Anderson went 3-for-5 at the plate with a pair of home runs and a triple.
The win is only Killian’s third this season, improving his record to 3-8. He tossed six innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits. His nine strikeouts were a season-high and tied his career-high.
Missouri took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a hit-and-run RBI-single by Dillon Everett, but Killian settled in and didn’t allow another hit until the sixth. During the stretch, he retired five Tigers batters on called third strikes.
Anderson’s solo home run in the fourth inning tied the game at 1-1 and Arkansas took the lead in the sixth after Eric Fisher followed Anderson’s triple with a double.
The lead did not hold, however, as Missouri got the run back thanks to a pair of one-out hits and an RBI-groundout by Kendall Keeton in the bottom half of the inning.
Eagan’s two-run home run in the seventh inning was followed by a Bobby Wernes sacrifice fly in the eighth to give Arkansas a 5-2 lead, which proved to be the difference.
The Tigers scored a pair in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI-single by Shane Segovia and an error by Michael Bernal, but Jackson Lowery bounced back to the Razorbacks out of the inning.
Arkansas and Missouri will play again Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. and the game will air on CST.
