Whitfield plans to earn offer at Arkansas camp
One of the better looking athletes at Arkansas’ spring game, plans to make a return trip to Fayetteville to attend the Hogs’ camp in June and earn an offer.
Spiro, Oklahoma athlete McKinley Whitfield said he spoke to Razorback tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. on Thursday and was told the Hogs want to see him work at safety.
“He was saying they were interested in me,” Whitfield said. “He said he will let me know where I stand with them and telling me if I come up to camp this summer and run a good 40 time and move well and could get an offer from them.”
Whitfield, 6-4, 194 pounds played quarterback for the 8-3 Bulldogs and passed for about 1,100 yards and rushed for 1,123 yards. He has scholarship offers from Arkansas State, Tulsa, Army, Navy and others. Video highlights CLICK HERE
He’s confident he’ll earn an offer from the Hogs.
“I think I can go in there and run a good 40 and move well,” said Whitfield, who reports running a 4.6 time in the 40 yard dash as a freshmen. “I know what I want and I know what I have to do now and I’m going to work hard going into the camp and run a good time.”
He liked what he experienced while at Arkansas’ Red-White game.
“I liked the fan base and it seems like a good place to be,” Whitfield said. “It’s a big SEC school and I like that. It’s just a good place to be around.”
Whitfield said an offer from the Hogs would mean a lot.
“It’s a big-time school and SEC,” he said. “It would be great.”
Should he earn an offer, Whitfield is uncertain if that would lead to a commitment.
“I don’t know,” Whitfield said. “I still want to take my time before I get an offer and just commit right there on the spot. I don't know.”
