Early enrollee not expected back

Arkansas cornerback Chris Murphy moves while working during practice Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the UA practice field in Fayetteville.

— Arkansas cornerback signee Chris Murphy is not expected to return to the football program after going through spring drills with the Razorbacks and returning home to Marietta, Ga., after the semester, a source with knowledge of the situation told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Monday.

Murphy was one of three high school graduates to enroll in January and engage in spring practices, along with receiver Jared Cornelius and quarterback Rafe Peavey. Murphy could not be reached for comment on Monday.

In a May 12 phone interview with the Democrat-Gazette, Murphy called the move to college “a long transition, but I took to it pretty well, I think. It was about what I imagined. Before I came to college, I had a pretty good idea of how it was going to go down and what would happen and it was pretty much what I expected.”

Murphy said in the interview he was planning to attend both sessions of summer school in Fayetteville and return to campus by Monday.

The Razorbacks have veteran depth at cornerback, with seniors Tevin Mitchel and Carroll Washington, junior Will Hines and sophomores Jared Collins and D.J. Dean, all with starting experience.
