NFL report: Swanson on verge of first start

During the Lions' first drive Sunday, starting right guard Larry Warford suffered a left knee injury, thrusting rookie Travis Swanson into action.

The former Arkansas center played 59 of the Lions' 67 offensive snaps in their 20-16 win over the Miami Dolphins.

Detroit had only used Swanson on special teams and as a sixth offensive lineman before Warford's injury. In fact, he had played only 19 offensive snaps before playing three times that many snaps Sunday.

Other than one holding penalty, he played well, helping Detroit rack up 351 yards of offense.

Swanson was selected by the Lions in the third round of this year's NFL Draft.

Originally, the Lions had planned to use him only on special teams this season, but injuries at the tight end position gave him an opportunity to see the field as a blocking tight end/sixth offensive lineman, before Warford's injury opened a starting spot on the line.

He was one of 14 former Razorbacks on an NFL 53-man roster during Week 10.

Ryan Mallett (Houston Texans) and Jarius Wright (Minnesota Vikings) each had bye weeks, meaning only 12 actually had games.

Jerry Franklin was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday to make room for Joe Mays.

Alvin Bailey - Seattle Seahawks

For the second straight week, Bailey started on the offensive line for the Seahawks (albeit at left guard this week, instead of left tackle) in their 38-17 win over the New York Giants.

However, his highlight came in the fourth quarter, when he recovered a fumble with Seattle leading only 24-17. The Seahawks went on to score a touchdown on that drive to put away the Giants.

Knile Davis - Kansas City Chiefs

Davis struggled in the Chiefs' 17-13 win over the Buffalo Bills. He carried the ball four times for only one yard and lost a fumble. He also caught one pass for five yards.

Nate Garner - Miami Dolphins

Similar to Swanson and in the same game, Garner got some playing time in the Dolphins' 20-16 loss to the Lions when a starting offensive lineman went down with an injury.

He was inserted at right tackle after starting left tackle Branden Albert left the game with an injury and was replaced by the Dolphins' starting right tackle Ja'Wuan James.

Brett Goode - Green Bay Packers

The Packers made two field goals, seven extra points and punted three times in their 55-14 win over the Chicago Bears. Goode was the long snapper on all 12 kicks.

Chris Gragg - Buffalo Bills

Gragg did not have any stats in the Bills' 17-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, but he did play.

Peyton Hillis - New York Giants

Before leading the game in the first half with a concussion, Hillis carried the ball once for four yards and caught one pass for five yards in the Giants' 38-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Darren McFadden - Oakland Raiders

McFadden had 11 touches for only 36 yards in the Raiders' 41-17 loss to the Denver Broncos. He rushed seven times for 14 yards and had four receptions for 22 yards.

Jason Peters - Philadelphia Eagles

Peters paved the way for an Eagles offense that racked up 365 yards en route to a 45-21 win over the Carolina Panthers.

Kiero Small - Cleveland Browns

Small made his third consecutive start for the Browns in their 24-3 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Chris Smith - Jacksonville Jaguars

Smith made one solo tackle in the Jaguars' 31-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in London.

George Wilson - Tennessee Titans

In the Titans' 21-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Wilson made four solo tackles and had one pass breakup.
