Arkansas looking hard at Georgia DE

Arkansas defensive line coach Rory Segrest directs his players during practice Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the UA practice field in Fayetteville.

Defensive end Jabari Zuniga was one of several prospects that Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema checked on during the recent bye week.

Zuniga, 6-3, 260, 4.8 seconds in the 40-yard dash, of Marietta (Ga.) Sprayberry is one of the fastest rising senior prospects in the Peach State.

His play this season has helped him lure in approximately 20 scholarship offers, including Minnesota, Kansas State, Iowa State, Illinois, North Carolina State and Arkansas State. Video highlights CLICK HERE

The Hogs along with Georgia and South Carolina are showing a good amount of interest. He played basketball until giving football a try as a junior.

“He has great lateral speed that I think he developed playing basketball as well as some vertical speed to get up field and get after you,” said Sprayberry quarterback coach Coleman Joiner.

As of last week, Zuniga had an official visit planned to North Carolina State in early January. His upside appears to be high since his time in the weight room has been limited.

“Because he hasn’t play football for very long, he hasn’t been in the weight room much,” Joiner said. “But you can tell he’s a naturally strong kid ,but he was definitely a guy teams had to double and triple team him.”

The opponents have had to scheme to try and minimize Zuniga.

“Because he gets off the edge so fast they had to lengthen that edge,” Joiner said. “He was so quick, he would split double teams, teams had to triple team him.”
