Arkansas target soaks in advice and film

Kristian Fulton

Metairie, (La.) Rummel junior cornerback Kristian Fulton learned to look at other things besides the record of a college football program after talking to former Rummel cornerback Henre’ Toliver and linebacker Dwayne Eugene.

The two Razorback freshmen told Fulton of Coach Bret Bielema’s advice of looking for a school that fits them athletically, academically and socially.

“You just can’t make a decision based on a team’s record,” Fulton said.

He plans to visit Fayetteville at some point.

“When I go up there, I have to see how it is academically and socially and athletically,” he said.

Fulton, who has visited LSU and Mississippi State this season, has 10 interceptions this season and credits some unwanted downtime for his success. He made a positive out of negative over the summer when he suffered a torn labrum and that made him become more of a student of the game.

“I learned the game more because I was hurt,” Fulton said. “I just learned more about the game. I felt like last year I didn’t make enough plays so this year I’m making more plays. I have 10 interceptions so I have an eye for the ball. I work on my technique because that’s going to help me on the next level.”

He’s helped the Raiders to a 11-0 record and play New Orleans Jesuit in the playoffs on Friday. A regular in the film room, Fulton said watching video has enhanced his play.

“i watch film a lot,” Fulton said. “That’s what really helped me. It’s the little things.”

Fulton is rated the No. 5 cornerback and the No. 61 overall recruit in the nation for the 2016 class by ESPN.

He's impressed with Hogs' receivers coach Michael Smith style of recruiting.

"He's real cool, he's a real cool coach," Fulton said in Sunday's Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. "He's one of those laid-back coaches. He's not one of those always serious coaches. He's like a coach that's cool to have."
