THE RECRUITING GUY

Razorback staff impresses elite junior prospect

Kaden Smith

Arkansas’s tight end play is allowing the Hogs to get a look from one of the top junior prospects at that position in the nation.

Kaden Smith, 6-5, 235, 4.8 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Flower Mound, (Texas) Marcus has more than 40 scholarship offers from schools like Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, Florida State and LSU. He visited the Hogs for the LSU game.

The Razorback coaching staff was the highlight of the trip.

“Probably meeting the coaches and seeing how they are,” said Smith, who's being recruited by running backs coach Joel Thomas. “They just seem like they’re there to enjoy, it’s not just strictly business, but they do want to win and they want to enjoy it.”

Smith, who’s rated the No. 2 tight end and No. 43 overall 2016 prospect in the nation by ESPN, had 35 receptions for 540 yards this season.

“I think I’m versatile, I can run routes and also block and I’m willing to block,” Smith said.

Smith, whose girlfriend, Mallory Pumphrey is a freshman at Arkansas, visited the Hog coaches for about 20 minutes the day after the LSU game and was able to check out the football complex.

“They have great facilities,” he said.

In addition to Fayetteville, Smith has visited Texas A&M, Stanford and Baylor for games this season and has plans to visit Alabama.

He also saw where the Razorback shutout Ole Miss on Saturday.

“Great offense and great dense was impressive,” Smith said.
