DALLAS -- SMU Coach Larry Brown has changed jobs eight times since the Mustangs beat Arkansas.

The No. 25 Razorbacks extended their winning streak over SMU to 13 games spanning 27 seasons with a 78-72 victory Tuesday night at Moody Coliseum.

Even Brown, the Naismith Hall of Fame coach with NCAA and NBA titles on his resume, can't get SMU over the hump against Arkansas. He's now 0-2 against the Razorbacks since coming to SMU, including an 89-78 Arkansas victory last season in Walton Arena.

Brown led Kansas to the national title in 1988, the last time the Mustangs beat the Razorbacks -- 73-63 on Feb. 13, 1988 in Fayetteville -- when both teams ere in the Southwest Conference.

Since then Brown has coached in the NBA with the Spurs, Clippers, Pacers, 76ers, Pistons, Knicks, Bobcats and returned to college with the Mustangs.

Getting technical

Arkansas guard Michael Qualls was called for a technical foul with 16 minutes left in the first half when he made contact with SMU guard Keith Frazier under the Mustangs' basket after scoring inside.

"There was a little bump, but I was supposed to be there," Qualls said. "That's the press. It was really that he just wanted to walk past me and I wouldn't move. That's basically what it comes down to."

Qualls said because he had just scored, the contact might have misconstrued as taunting, but the technical call didn't catch him off guard.

"Not surprised at all," Qualls said. "We're in a hostile environment, you know? I just tried to make up for it, because it's giving the other team two points on my behalf.

"I just wanted to try to make up for it any way that I could."

Nic Moore hit both technical free throws for the Mustangs while Qualls finished with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

Arkansas Coach Mike Anderson took Qualls out of the game after the technical.

"He got kind of rattled and got a technical foul, which I didn't like that," Anderson said. "But it shows you what kind of kid he is that he apologized and went to work."

Last-half rebound

Arkansas sophomore forward Bobby Portis scored 13 of his game-high 22 points in the first half, but he didn't have any rebounds. He had five rebounds in the second half.

"I thought Bobby had a good game, but he didn't have any rebounds at halftime," Arkansas Coach Mike Anderson said. "I wasn't happy about that, but he came out and ended up with five.

"That tells you what kind of player he is, what kind of kid he is. He's very coachable. He listens and he made some big plays for us."

Not half bad

Arkansas led SMU 33-22 at halftime.

It was the fewest points Arkansas held an opponent to on the road since Southwest Missouri State scored 19 in a 56-41 loss to the Razorbacks on Dec. 8, 1983 in Springfield, Mo.

Nice start

Arkansas has started 4-0 for the first time since the 2006-07 season, when the Razorbacks made the second of three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. They also won their first road game of the season for the first time since beating Missouri 62-52 on Dec. 7, 2004, in Columbia, Mo.
