Nashville athlete La’Michael Pettway worked hard in the weight room over the summer and the results are noticeable. His biceps and physique look that of a linebacker and give him an imposing look at his position.

Pettway, 6-3, 200, 4.47 seconds in the 40 yard dash, played mostly quarterback until this season and had to adjust to playing receiver. He uses his size and strength to his advantage while going up against much smaller defensive backs.

“I felt like I wanted to be stronger and work on my technique and I thought being so big and physical, I felt the weight room could help me with a lot of my game,” said Pettway, who visited Arkansas for the Georgia game.

He has recorded 27 receptions for 495 yards and 12 touchdowns while having 28 tackles, a tackle for a loss, 5 interceptions and 4 pass breakups at safety.

The former Ole Miss commitment has 14 scholarship offers, including Arkansas, Alabama, Louisville, Ole Miss, Arkansas State, Nebraska, Southern Miss and others.

Pettway, who has a 285 pound bench press, 415 squat and a 310 power clean, is being recruited by tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. He said strength and conditioning coach Ben Herbert is intrigued with his potential.

“He was looking at me and said he could do a lot with my body,” Pettway said.

He had planned to visit Ole Miss early last week, but was unable to make the trip. He does plan to travel to Oxford with his parents.

“I’m pretty sure it’s going to be an official,” Pettway said.

His parents accompanied him for his visit to Little Rock and also have been to Fayetteville.

“They haven’t been to Ole Miss, but they’ve been to Fayetteville,” said Pettway, who admits he was tempted to commit to the Hogs during his visit on Saturday. “They love Fayetteville.”
