Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema's opening statement

“I really thought our guys came out ready to play. They responded well after last week against Georgia. Fall break came at a good time for us. We had some more time on Monday and Tuesday with class out to really focus we had a time to look at our team and they responded with a good week of practice. They came out and played well on offense, defense and special teams in the first half as we built a 35-0 lead going into the locker room. I thought in the second half we were off a bit, but that’s natural. We had a chance to play some of our second string today and I think they responded really well. We’re a 4-4 team. When we are locked in we can be a really good football team. I told them that when they are locked in and play with a bit of an edge they could compete with anybody, but right now the problem is all in between the ears and they need to come out and respond, which is what they did today.”

Bielema on Sebastian Tretola's touchdown pass

“It developed over fall camp, I saw him tossing the ball around in practice and I talked to him about it some and went over a few things and we went with it. We had that play in our book for a couple of weeks and we were looking for the right opportunity and it came today. A play like that is a way for me to have a little fun with our team and bring them some energy. The team was so pumped when we dialed it up and even more excited when it was executed. We probably have a quarterback controversy now in the eyes of Tretola."

Bielema on run game

“Jonathan Williams has been very consistent, and I thought he would be that type of runner when I got here and he showed that again today. He is a great football player, and I sat him and his family down to discuss and evaluate his process to the NFL because there will be someone looking at him when the season is done. I thought Alex Collins looked better, but I would still like to see him finish a bit better.”

Arkansas offensive lineman Sebastian Tretola on his touchdown pass

“We ran the play and he snapped me the ball and everything went slow motion from there. I have a whole new found respect for Brandon Allen, you know what, because it gets hectic back there. I mean (Alan) D’Appollonio got open and I made the throw.”

Arkansas running back Jonathan Williams on the win

“Throughout this week our whole mindset was to focus on us and we came out there and played our game, and came out with a W.”

Arkansas defensive end Trey Flowers on defensive performance

"We were locked in, focused. Execution was good. We executed the calls. It was a big time win for us. We needed it bad to get that attitude back, that winning attitude. I feel as though it is going to help us out confidence wise.”

UAB head coach Bill Clark on the loss

“I give Arkansas all the credit in the first half. They were as good as advertised. I thought we had a good scheme defensively. Obviously it hurt us a little bit to not have or starting quarterback out there. To give them some credit, their defense was outstanding in the first half. It was disappointing that we couldn’t get a stop in the first half."

UAB receiver J.J. Nelson on 100-yard kickoff return

"We saw how everything was going in the first half with a couple of kickoffs they had. We talked about it and we thought that going left with a return that it was going to be a great call for us. We just came out and executed well."
