James McCann will make his first Major League start Saturday when the Detroit Tigers host the San Francisco Giants.

The former Arkansas catcher will be batting eighth in the lineup and will catch former American League Cy Young winner David Price.

The start comes only four days after he joined the team Tuesday, the day after MLB rosters expanded to 40 players. He has appeared in three Major League games, going 0-for-2, but Saturday will be his first significant action.

Tigers' starting catcher Alex Avila has missed three games with a concussion and back-up Bryan Holaday is getting the day off after starting all three games Avila missed.

In triple-A this season, McCann batted .295 with 34 doubles, 7 home runs and 54 RBIs.

First pitch is scheduled for 12:08 p.m. Central and the game will air on Fox.
