Arkansas runs for 7 TDs in rout of Texas Tech

— Arkansas had the best draw in a west Texas shootout Saturday.

The Razorbacks rushed for seven touchdowns in a 49-28 win over Texas Tech at Jones AT&T Stadium. The matchup between former Southwest Conference rivals resulted in Arkansas' first nonconference road win in 11 years.

Jonathan Williams ran for 144 yards and 4 touchdowns, and Alex Collins added a career-high 212 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Razorbacks (2-1) dominated the Red Raiders defense.

Williams had touchdown runs of 6, 13 and 12 yards in the first half as Arkansas built a 28-21 halftime lead.

After a 5-yard touchdown run by Brandon Allen midway through the third quarter, Williams added a 7-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to extend the Razorbacks' lead to 42-28.

Collins gave Arkansas some breathing room with an 84-yard score early in the fourth quarter, sending many of the 60,277 fans to the exits.

The Razorbacks rushed 68 times Saturday for 438 yards. Arkansas held the ball for 40:39, limiting Texas Tech (2-1) to only three possessions after halftime.

The Red Raiders led 7-0 after Davis Webb threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Reginald Davis early in the first quarter, but the lead didn't last long. After linebacker Brooks Ellis forced a fumble at the Texas Tech 13, Williams ran for a 6-yard touchdown to tie the game midway through the quarter.

The Razorbacks took the lead after an 11-play drive - all rushes - was capped with a 13-yard touchdown run by Williams late in the first quarter.

Arkansas never trailed again. Texas Tech tied the game twice in the second quarter, but the Razorbacks always had an answer.

Collins' 15-yard touchdown run with 11:15 left in the second quarter made it 21-14 Arkansas and the Razorbacks took the lead on a 12-yard run by Williams with 1:30 remaining before halftime. Linebacker Martrell Spaight intercepted a pass by Webb and returned it 30 yards to the Red Raiders 12 to set up the go-ahead score.

The Razorbacks never trailed after halftime. A 13-play, 75-yard drive to start the third quarter was capped with a 5-yard touchdown run by Allen to give the Razorbacks a 35-21 lead.

Texas Tech responded with a 39-yard touchdown pass from Webb to Jakeem Grant, but another long drive resulted in Williams' fourth touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.

Arkansas converted 8 of 12 third downs during the game. The Razorbacks rushed for 286 yards after halftime and held the ball for just under 24 minutes in the second half.

Webb completed 27 of 45 passes for 252 yards and 3 touchdowns for Texas Tech. He was intercepted twice.

The Razorbacks will host Northern Illinois (3-0) next Saturday in Fayetteville. The Huskies enter the game - which will be shown on ESPNU at 6 p.m. - with a 26-game regular season win streak and 17-game road win streak.
