The Recruiting Guy

Thursday recruiting tidbits

Quarterback Logan Byrd and his parents liked what they saw during their two-day visit to Arkansas.

Mike Byrd, the father of quarterback Logan Byrd, said their two-day visit to Arkansas exceeded their expectations. They spent Tuesday and Wednesday on campus.

They were very impressed with Coach Bret Bielema and his focus on recruiting uncommon men.

Byrd, 6-3, 232, 4.50 of Kathleen, (Ga.) Veterans has offers from Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh and others. Video highlights CLICK HERE

Mike, his wife Shannon and Logan were able to spend about 30 minutes alone with the Razorback quarterbacks and ask any questions they wished. They were told how the program has changed since the Bielema and his staff have been there. The players talked how there was an open door policy with the coaches and the environment was totally different.

Logan was able to spend time with offensive coordinator Dan Enos and learn about the offense. Mike said the people at the school were impressive and he and his wife would feel very comfortable with Logan being at Arkansas. Overall, they could't say enough good things about the trip.

He said the two days were very well planned out in all areas of the visit. Logan wants to study pre-med and eventually become a doctor.

Strength and conditioning coach Ben Herbert and his ability to transform athletes was another plus. Defensive line coach Rory Segrest, who recruits Georgia, is also involved in Byrd's recruiting.

Mike said Arkansas, North Carolina, Florida and Kentucky were the schools standing out. He thinks Logan will make a decision in about a month. He'll graduate in December and be an early enrollee.

Pulaski Robinson athlete T.J. Hammonds said he'll visit Arkansas April 18.

Keller, Texas quarterback Caleb Griffin, who plans to visit Arkansas on Saturday, completed 157 of 244 passes for 1,900 yards 14 touchdowns, 5 interceptions and a 98.4 quarterback rating. He also rushed for 400 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Arkansas incoming freshman tight end Austin Cantrell of Roland, Oklahoma plans to report to Fayetteville May 26.
