Harris works out with the Ravens

Arkansas forward Alandise Harris blocks a shot by Tennessee guard Josh Richardson during a game Friday, March 13, 2015, during the SEC Tournament at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.

Alandise Harris took another step in his transition to football Tuesday.

The former Arkansas basketball player worked out for the Baltimore Ravens during their local prospect day, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Despite not playing football since high school, Harris is giving the NFL a shot before trying to play basketball overseas.

Harris, a 6-foot-6, 230-pound former forward, worked out as a tight end and reportedly caught the ball well. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.8 seconds and had a 35-inch vertical jump.

He missed Arkansas' end of the year banquet April 13 because he was in Dallas at a speed training camp, according to Arkansas coach Mike Anderson.

"He was one of our most aggressive, physical players," Anderson said after the banquet. "If he has some good hands, he might make a good tight end for somebody."

Anderson said that he did not know Harris was planning to try football until after the season and that the news surprised him.

After transferring to Arkansas from Houston, the Little Rock native averaged 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in two seasons with the Razorbacks.

If his transition is successful, he would join a small number of players like San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates, who played played college basketball before playing in the NFL.
