Upgrades planned for Bud Walton Arena

A new scoreboard is constructed on the floor of Bud Walton Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003.

— Arkansas is making significant audio and video upgrades to Bud Walton Arena prior to the start of basketball season in November, according to an email sent to season ticket holders Wednesday.

The Razorbacks will replace the video scoreboard and sound system in the arena at an estimated cost of $4 million.

The new video scoreboard will feature four LED screens, according to the university. The sound system will "allow more efficient audio distribution with enhanced volume and clarity" throughout the arena, the email stated.

"Imagine trading a single AM/FM radio positioned in the middle of the room for a high quality stereo with surround sound customized for 19,000 plus fans sitting throughout the arena," the email stated. "In other words, we are confident you will notice a significant difference."

The upgrades will be the first of their kind to the arena since the current video scoreboard was installed in 2003. The current scoreboard does not have high-definition video capability.

Bud Walton Arena is the latest UA athletics facility to upgrade its video scoreboard. The university added an HD video screen to its football scoreboard prior to the 2012 season and is scheduled to install a new video scoreboard at its baseball stadium prior to next season.
