Kelley not deterred by Town

Quarterback Cole Kelley.

Quarterback Cole Kelley, a Razorback commitment, was unfazed by Friday's news that former Southern Cal quarterback Ricky Town was transferring to Arkansas.

Teurlings Catholic Coach Sonny Charpentier said he and Kelley spoke about the possibility of Town becoming a Hog on Thursday.

“The typical response I would anticipate from him anyway was he didn’t really care and it wasn’t no big deal,” Charpentier said.

Kelley, who completed 198 of 368 passes for 3,001 yards and 31 touchdowns with 9 interceptions as a junior, said Town being on board would “absolutely not” impact his decision to be a Razorback

“He understands to because we talk about it all the time there’s always somebody trying to take your job or you’re trying to take their job so that’s just the nature of the beast,” Charpentier said.

Kelley, 6-7, 240 of Lafayette, (La.) Teurlings Catholic picked the Hogs over scholarship offers from Kentucky, Oklahoma State, Colorado State, Tulane, Southern Miss and others in April. Video highlights CLICK HERE

Kelley is an intense competitor.

“He understands that big-time football is competition all the time and he loves to compete,” Charpentier said. “He’s not going to be afraid of competition. He understands it and pretty much enjoys it.”
