Report: Ravens to sign former Hog Ryan Mallett

In this Oct. 4, 2015, file photo, Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett (15) warms up before the first half of an NFL football game against the Atlanta Falcons in Atlanta.

The Baltimore Ravens will sign former Razorback quarterback Ryan Mallett, who was released by the Houston Texans earlier this season, ESPN reported.

There was no immediate confirmation of the signing from the team. ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini reported on Twitter shortly before 2 p.m. that Mallett "will be signing with the Baltimore Ravens per sources."

Mallett was released by Houston in October after he was benched and then missed a team flight.

Mallett earlier in the year missed a practice, which he blamed on his oversleeping. That occurred after veteran Brian Hoyer was named the team's starting quarterback over Mallett heading into the season.

But Hoyer was pulled in the fourth quarter of Houston's first game, and Mallett became the starter. Hoyer took the starting job back, however, after the Texans struggled to a 1-4 start.

The Ravens lost quarterback Joe Flacco to a knee injury last month and backup Matt Schaub missed Sunday's game with a chest injury.

Jimmy Clausen started at quarterback for Baltimore on Sunday in a 35-6 loss, completing 23 of 40 passes and throwing one interception.
