— Arkansas defensive end Tevin Beanum was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with DWI, a minor in possession of alcohol and failure to dim lights.

Beanum, 20, was booked into Washington County Detention Center at 6:23 a.m. and released at 9:26 a.m. after posting $1,100 bond. The redshirt sophomore from Forrest City faces a March 30 date in Fayetteville District Court to answer the charges.

Beanum was pulled over at 2:26 a.m. after he did not dim his high beams while passing a police vehicle on West Avenue, near Dickson Street, according to the preliminary arrest report.

The arresting officer wrote in his report that he could smell the odor of alcohol coming from Beanum’s breath and that Beanum’s eyes were bloodshot and watery. The officer added that “Beanum performed in a manner consistent with an intoxicated person” and that an open bottle of brandy was discovered inside a Wendy’s bag in the back seat of Beanum’s vehicle.

Beanum was administered a blood alcohol test at the Washington County Sheriff’s office and had a reading of .08 percent. The legal limit for drivers younger than 21 in Arkansas is .02 percent.

Beanum is the first active Arkansas football player arrested since defensive end Austin Flynn in the winter before Coach Bret Bielema’s first spring drills in 2013.

Signee Jojo Robinson was arrested in his hometown of Miami last year but all charges were dropped in that incident when it was determined Robinson was an uninvolved passenger in a car from which a couple of his high school classmates were alleged to have committed a robbery with a handgun.
