Peyton Hillis was released by the New York Giants Tuesday.

The former Arkansas running back played in nine games this season before suffering a concussion and being placed on injured reserve.

Before the injury, Hillis rushed for 115 yards on 26 carries and had 87 yards on 10 receptions.

It was his lowest production since 2009, his second year in the NFL, when he had 54 yards on 13 carries for the Denver Broncos.

Although he was the least-heralded running back coming out of Arkansas in the 2008 NFL Draft, Hillis has had a productive professional career.

He was drafted by the Broncos in the seventh round and spent two seasons in Denver, before playing two seasons for the Cleveland Browns and one season with the Kansas City Chiefs. He has been in New York the last two seasons.

In 2010, he rushed for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Browns and was voted to be on the cover of EA Sports' Madden NFL 12 a year later.

Neither Darren McFadden nor Felix Jones, who were both first-round picks out of Arkansas in the 2008 draft, have rushed for more yards or touchdowns in a single season than Hillis did in 2010.

During his seven-year career, Hillis has gained 2,832 yards and scored 23 touchdowns on 696 carries, while catching 134 passes for 1,050 yards and three touchdowns.
