— Hard work during the offseason helped quarterback Jalen Hurts, an Arkansas target, improve from his sophomore to junior season while leading his team to a 7-3 record.

“I still have things to improve on, but I’m a better player now,” Hurts said.

He completed 142 of 259 passes for 1,520 yards, 14 touchdowns and 2 interceptions as sophomore and saw his number go up this past season when he completed 166 of 251 passes for 2,558 yards, 21 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.

He has high interest in Arkansas because he wants to play in a pro-style offense to help his chances of making it to the NFL. Hurt has been talking to Arkansas offensive coordinator Jim Chaney and defensive backs coach Clay Jennings.

Hurts said he gets straight talk from the Hog coaches.

“That’s one thing I like about coaches, coaches that will keep it real,” Hurts said. “They tell you the truth and they won’t sugarcoat anything. They keep it real with you”.

Hurts who also rushed 132 times for 948 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior, believes Michigan State and Louisville are close to offering him.

He also runs track and participates in the 200 meters and runs a leg of the 4x400 relay. He said it takes a special person to run the 400 meter sprint.

“It’s a man’s race,” Hurts said. “You have to have guts to do it, you have to have the guts.”
