Hogs miss final Bowerman cut

Sandi Morris of Arkansas begins her approach while competing in the pole vault during the Tyson Invitational Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville.

— A pair of Arkansas athletes missed the final cut for The Bowerman, which is presented to the best male and female athletes in college track & field.

Hurdler Omar McLeod and pole vaulter Sandi Morris were not among the three finalists for the men's or women's awards. Both had been among 10 semifinalists.

McLeod won a pair of individual national championships as a sophomore for the Razorbacks and was a member of Arkansas' winning 400 relay team outdoors. McLeod broke the 60-meter hurdles record with a time of 7.45 seconds at the NCAA indoor meet in March.

Morris won the NCAA indoor championship and finished second outdoors as a senior. At the SEC outdoor meet in May, Morris set the collegiate pole vault record with a jump of 15 feet, 5 3/4 inches.

The male finalists for the award were Oregon distance runner Edward Cheserek, Florida jumper Marquis Dendy and Akron pole vaulter Shawn Barber.

Female finalists for the award were Oregon multi-event athlete Jenna Prandini, Stephen F. Austin pole vaulter Demi Payne and Kentucky hurdler Kendra Harrison.

Both McLeod and Morris have signed professional endorsement contracts with Nike and will compete at the World Championships next month in Beijing.
