Former Arkansas Razorback running back Peyton Hillis said Friday he may not return to the NFL after suffering a concussion last season with the New York Giants.

The Conway native who has played seven years in the NFL with Denver, Cleveland and Kansas City was released by the Giants in February. He was injured Nov. 9 in New York’s loss at Seattle and placed on injured reserve later that week.

“It’s not looking too good for me,” Hillis said. “It’s about time to hang it up.”

Hillis, 29, joined former Razorbacks Darren McFadden, Clint Stoener, D.J. Williams and Martrell Spaight on Friday at the Arkansas Legends Pro Camp at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock.

Hillis was taken by Denver in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft. His best season came with Cleveland in 2010, when he rushed for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns. In seven seasons, Hillis has rushed for 2,832 yards and 23 touchdowns.

He said he has no regrets if he doesn’t return to football.

“I’m getting up there in age, being a running back,” Hillis said. “You hang on as much as you can. I’ve really enjoyed my ride. I’m very blessed. I’ve been in the league a lot longer than most people ever dreamed up.”
