The Recruiting Guy

One of the nation's top D-linemen hoping to check out Hogs in fall

Elite defensive lineman Rashard Lawrence is talking to Arkansas about a visit in the fall.

— Highly recruited defensive tackle Rashard Lawrence likes what he’s seen of Coach Bret Bielema’s program and is looking to visit Arkansas for a game this fall.

“They’re on the rise, obviously, they have a good O-line and they can make you better,” Lawrence said. “They’re going to be a good contender in the SEC.”

Lawrence, 6-2, 309 pound of Monroe, (La.) Neville was one of the more impressive linemen at The Opening, a three day event featuring the top prospects in the nation at Nike Headquarters.

ESPN rates him the No. 3 defensive tackle and the No. 6 overall prospect in the nation. Video highlights CLICK HERE

He has scholarship offers from schools like Arkansas, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, UCLA, Ole Miss, Florida State and Miami. He has so many offers, he doesn’t have an exact amount.

“I stopped keeping up after 40, over 40, I can’t even tell you a number,” Lawrence said.

He’s been in communication with defensive line coach Rory Segrest and receivers coach Michael Smith.

“I have interest, they’ve been recruiting me and I would love to get down there sometime,” Lawrence said.

The charismatic Lawrence has a core 3.5 grade point average and is looking to major in communication with an eye towards television.

“Kind of like a Shaquille O’Neal, you know like a ESPN or TNT type thing,” Lawrence said. “Hopefully after I’m in the league for a couple of years I could do that.”

Lawrence cherished his time at The Opening.

“It was probably the best experience in my life football wise,” Lawrence said. “Just great competition and battling against the best guys across the country. It was an amazing experience.”
