CAC's Johnson looking to impress at Arkansas camp

NWA Media/ANDY SHUPE - Arkansas tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. directs his players during practice Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.

Central Arkansas Christian junior receiver Josh Johnson has four scholarship offers and is looking to add a fifth from Arkansas after competing at the Hogs’ prospect camp on Thursday.

Johnson, 6-0, 173 pounds has offers from Oklahoma State, Kansas, La. Tech and Memphis while drawing interest from Arkansas, LSU, Texas Tech, Alabama, Fresno State and California. Video highlights CLICK HERE

“I want to go up there and at least run a good 40 time and catch the coach’s eye and hopefully come back home with an offer,” Johnson said.

He has recorded a time of 4.52 seconds in the 40 yard dash at the Memphis camp.

“I’m trying to get it down to at least a 4.4,” Johnson said.

He had 26 receptions for 530 yards and 8 touchdowns as a sophomore. Johnson is thankful for the offers and is hoping to see more later in the season.

“I’m blessed to be able to have them I know a lot of people don’t get the opportunity to at least get offered,” Johnson said. “A lot of schools are saying they’e going to offer me later on in my junior year. They just want to see if I develop from my sophomore year to my junior year.”

Johnson, who has a 3.04 core grade point average, didn’t expect to see the offers come so early.

“I really thought I would get my junior year going into my senior year because I didn’t have a bunch of yards last year,” Johnson said. “But it feels great that coaches are noticing because I think it’s more than football. They’re looking at grades and all that to see if I’m actually a good fit for their team.”
