The Recruiting Guy

Thursday Vegas recruiting tidbits

Malik Monk of Bentonville High School

— Arkansas Wings Elite guard Malik Monk will release his top schools after playing in Bigfoot Hoops and The 8 tournaments in Las Vegas.

The list will consist of more than five schools. He said recently the Hogs would make the list.

Arkansas Coach Mike Anderson and his three assistant coaches were on hand to watch Monk and the Wings defeat Nor Cal Wildcats Black 54-44 Wednesday night.

Monk, 6-4, 190 of Bentonville said Anderson has told him he wants him to be the face of the program. He hasn't decide if he'll take all five official visits. He will sign in the spring signing period.

Another major target, center-forward De'ron Davis, 6-10 of Aurora, Colo., Overland, has lost about 20 pounds since playing in Real Deal in the Rock in April and is much lighter on his feet. He said he started a new diet around the time of Real Deal and has continued to do so.

He has more than 20 scholarship offers from schools like Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, UCLA, Oklahoma State, Indiana and others. He plans to announce his top five shortly after playing in Vegas.

Indiana, Arizona, Colorado, Arkansas, UCLA, Notre Dame and Texas are coming after him the hardest.

A new name to watch for in Arkansas recruiting is 2017 point guard Nick Weatherspoon, 6-2, 175 of Velma Jackson, Miss. He has offers from LSU, Connecticut, Florida State and Miami. He likes Arkansas' style of play and he said an offer from the Hogs would put them in contention for him.

He had an outstanding game for MBA Hoops in the opening night of the Adidas Uprising Summer Championship on Wednesday night.

Today will be a very busy day with updates on several prospects the Hogs are recruiting. Arkansas' football team is hosting several top recruits and will also conduct a prospect camp.
