Hogs pile up SEC track awards

Arkansas hurdler Omar McLeod clears a hurdle during the men's 60-meter hurdle finals at the Razorback Invitational track meet at the Randal Tyson Track Complex on Jan. 31, 2015, in Fayetteville.

Several Arkansas track and field athletes were honored by the Southeastern Conference Monday.

The Razorbacks swept the runner of the year awards, as Omar McLeod won on the men's side and Dominique Scott was the co-winner on the women's side.

Arkansas coach Lance Harter was also named the women's coach of the year after leading the Razorbacks to a No. 1 ranking and an SEC Championship.

The other two honors Arkansas earned were won by Sandi Morris, who was named co-field athlete of the year and women's scholar-athlete of the year.

McLeod ran the 60-meter hurdles in 7.49 seconds at the SEC Championships, becoming only the third person in NCAA history to break the 7.5-second mark. It broke the UA and SEC meet record and was the fastest time in the country this season.

Scott is coming off a dominant performance at the SEC Championships, too, winning the mile and 3,000-meter run. Her time of 4:32.49 in the mile broke the SEC meet record and broke the UA records in both events during the season.

Morris briefly held the NCAA pole vaulting record with a leap of 15 feet, 1 1/2 inches at the Arkansas-Texas dual meet in January. Although her record has since been broken, she improved her school record at the SEC Championships, clearing 15-feet, 3 1/2 inches. It was also an SEC meet record.

Arkansas hosts the NCAA Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
