A pair of former Arkansas pitchers are dealing with injuries during Spring Training.

The Philadelphia Phillies announced Sunday that Cliff Lee, a former Cy Young Award winner, experienced discomfort in his pitching elbow and had an MRI Friday.

Preliminary results do not show any ligament damage, but the Phillies are sending them to be re-examined by renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Lee has already been scratched from his Tuesday start and there is not a timetable for his return.

In 2014, he started only 13 games and went 4-5 with a 3.65 ERA.

Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash also announced Sunday that Drew Smyly could miss time with shoulder tendinitis.

Cash told the Tampa Tribune that "it's fair to say there is concern" that Smyly, who the Rays acquired via a trade with the Detroit Tigers last season, might miss the start of the regular season.

Smyly said the injury is not serious and he is expected to pitch a simulated game Monday before making is spring debut Saturday.

Reynolds hits walk-off

Matt Reynolds was the hero for the New York Mets Friday.

The former Arkansas infielder launched a solo home run to give the Mets a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers in a Spring Training exhibition game.

Now one of the Mets' top prospects, Reynolds is trying to beat out Wilmer Flores for the starting shortstop position in New York.

In 267 at bats at triple-A Las Vegas last season, Reynolds hit .333 with five home runs and 40 RBIs. That came after a midseason promotion from double-A Binghamton.

Gentry healthy again

After battling through multiple injuries in 2014, Craig Gentry is healthy and participating with the Oakland A's in Spring Training.

The former Arkansas outfielder had a back injury and missed last Spring Training. He also missed time with a broken hand in July before a concussion in September ended his season.

In Oakland's 9-4 win over the San Francisco Giants Tuesday, Gentry returned to the lineup and collected a pair of hits in his first two at bats. He also stole a base and scored a pair of runs.

This is the first time Gentry has been able to participate in Spring Training with the A's, as he was traded to Oakland during the 2013 season.

"It feels great," Gentry told the San Francisco Gate. "It's tough to come to a new team and be injured, to develop that camaraderie, it's tough when you're not out there. It's really nice to go out there and be in game."
