Portis named SEC player of the year

— Arkansas sophomore Bobby Portis has been named the Southeastern Conference player of the year.

Portis averaged 17.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game during the regular season. He is the first Arkansas player to win the award since Corliss Williamson won it twice in 1994 and 1995.

Arkansas junior Michael Qualls was named second-team all-SEC and guard Anton Beard was named to the SEC all-freshman team.

Kentucky coach John Calipari was named the league coach of the year. The undefeated Wildcats also had the league's defensive player of the year (Willie Cauley-Stein), freshman of the year (Karl Anthony Towns) and sixth-man of the year (Devin Booker).
