Killian not enough, Hogs swept by Vandy

Arkansas starter Trey Killian delivers a pitch against Texas A&M during the first inning Friday, May 9, 2014, at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville.

Trey Killian's second start of the season was a gem, but it wasn't enough for Arkansas to avoid being swept Sunday.

The Arkansas pitcher tossed seven perfect innings before he was relieved because he reached his pitch count. The Razorbacks managed to keep the Commodores off the scoreboard until Dansby Swanson's game-winning single in the ninth lifted Vanderbilt to a 1-0 win.

The Commodores almost won the game an inning before Swanson's hit.

Vanderbilt's Bryan Reynolds broke up the no-hitter with a one-out single off Josh Alberius in the eighth. He then stole second and third before Alberius struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

While Killian dominated, retiring all 21 batters he faced and striking out six, Jordan Sheffield was nearly as good for the Commodores. He also pitched seven innings, allowing only two hits.

However, Sheffield struggled with his command. He issued five free bases - three walks and two hit batsmen. The Razorbacks could not capitalize, though, as they left eight runners on base during the game.

Arkansas' best chance to score came in the eighth inning.

Tyler Spoon's one-out single loaded the bases for the Razorbacks. Rick Nomura followed with a fly out to right and Clark Eagan was thrown out at home trying to score on the play.

The loss extended Arkansas' losing streak to six game, its longest since 2000. It is also the first time the Razorbacks have been swept in its opening SEC series since 2001, when they were swept on the road at South Carolina.
