Safety visits Arkansas, leaves with an offer

Safety Dillon Stoner.

Safety Dillon Stoner wasn’t expecting to leave Fayetteville with a scholarship offer after Thursday’s visit, but was very pleased when Coach Bret Bielema extended one.

“We got to talking for awhile and he said he was going to go ahead and offer,” Stoner said of the meeting in Bielema’s office. “I was shocked honestly. I still kind of am to be totally honest.”

Stoner, 6-1, 180, 4.45 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Jenks, Oklahoma also has offers from Arkansas State and Wyoming while receiving interest from Tulsa and SMU. Video highlights CLICK HERE

“I just said thank you very much for the opportunity and we talked after that,” Stoner said of his response to Bielema’s offer. “It was awesome.”

The thought of becoming Arkansas’ third commitment for the 2016 class crossed his mind.

“Oh yeah for sure, I mean…Arkansas is obviously a great school,” Stoner said. “It’s been one I’ve always liked growing up, but I don’t want to commit yet.”

Offensively, Stoner recorded 35 receptions for 597 yards, 6 touchdowns and 10 carries for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns this past season. He had 48 tackles and 5 interceptions, one returned for a score.

When he’ll make his college decision is uncertain.

“I’m not a 100 percent sure yet, I have to talk to my parents and everything and see what they think,” he said.

Stoner has a 3.5 grade point average and is considering business as a major. He and his father, Steve were given a tour of the campus.

“I thought it was beautiful,” Stoner said. “I thought it was an awesome campus. I could definitely see myself going there. I didn't expect it to be that nice They have a great facility . I was impressed with it all.”

His father was equally impressed with the trip.

“I think he enjoyed it as well,” Stoner said. “I think he was as shocked as a I was when Coach B said he was going to go ahead and offer.”
