Arkansas wins nonconference finale

Arkansas beat Creighton 6-2 Tuesday night in its final nonconference game of the regular season.

The No. 20 Razorbacks scored three runs in the sixth inning to take command at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska. Arkansas won its sixth straight road game.

Turning Point: Bobby Wernes, Rick Nomura and Michael Bernal had RBI hits in consecutive sixth inning at-bats to give the Razorbacks a 4-1 lead.

Notable: The game was played at TD Ameritrade Park, home of the College World Series.

After Creighton tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Razorbacks took the lead for good on Bobby Wernes' RBI triple in the sixth inning. Rick Nomura and Michael Bernal added RBI hits in the inning to extend Arkansas' lead to 4-1.

Andrew Benintendi led off the seventh inning with a home run to give the Razorbacks a 5-1 lead. The home run was Benintendi's 17th of the season, which is two shy of the national lead.

Benintendi finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate. In his last 15 at-bats, the sophomore has 12 hits and is also on a seven-game hit streak.

Creighton pulled within 5-2 in the eighth inning, but Arkansas' Clark Eagan tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning.

Dominic Taccolini pitched the final 2 2/3 innings for Arkansas to record his second save in as many games. James Teague and Jackson Lowery each pitched two scoreless innings.

The Razorbacks will close the regular season with a series at Georgia beginning Thursday. Arkansas enters the final weekend fifth in the conference standings, but stands a chance to move up in the standings, which would earn the team a first-round bye at the SEC Tournament next week.
