Bulldogs crush Hogs in Game 1

Starter Trey Killian of Arkansas speaks with pitching coach Dave Jorn against Mississippi during the second inning Friday, March 27, 2015, at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville.

Georgia did most of its damage in the first two innings and made it stick Thursday night in Athens, Ga.

The Bulldogs plated four runs in the opening frame and added another in the second en route to a 10-1 win over No. 20 Arkansas.

Arkansas starter Trey Killian (2-4) was charged with four earned runs during the stretch. He gave up six hits and walked four batters in five innings of work, while also committing two errors in the field.

Killian’s ERA rose to 5.16 on the season with the outing.

Offensively, the Razorbacks couldn’t get anything off of Georgia starter David Sosebee (4-3), who gave up only one earned run on six hits and one walk, while striking out seven, in seven innings.

Joe Serrano’s two-out RBI single in the fifth gave the Razorbacks their only run of the game. The only Arkansas player with multiple hits was Alex Gosser, who went 2-for-3.

Andrew Benintendi went 1-for-3, dropping his batting average to .411, and drew a walk.

Georgia (26-26, 10-17) used a five-run seventh inning to blow open the game, with the final run coming on a throwing error by Carson Shaddy.

It was the Razorbacks’ fourth error of the game, which is their second-most in a game this season. Arkansas (31-20, 15-12) committed five in a 13-6 loss to Maryland early in the season.

The loss snapped Arkansas’ six-game road winning streak.

The second game of the series is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Friday.
