Hogs to pay Vols in Hoover

Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn and Tennessee coach Dave Serrano exchange lineups before their teams played Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Baum Stadium.

Arkansas will play Tennessee at approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday in a first-round elimination game in the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala.

The No. 20 Razorbacks (33-20, 17-12 SEC) are the No. 5 seed, while the Volunteers (24-24, 11-18) are the No. 12 seed.

The Arkansas-Tennessee winner will play fourth-seeded Florida on Wednesday night when the tournament goes to a double-elimination format.

Tennessee earned the tournament’s last spot by scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat Mississippi State 3-2 Saturday. If the Vols had lost, the Razorbacks would have played Georgia, which they beat 8-1 Saturday.

Arkansas and Tennessee split their regular-season series last weekend in Fayetteville, with the Vols winning 5-4 and the Razorbacks winning 5-2. They didn’t play a third game because a weather delay Sunday canceled the second game of a doubleheader.

Alabama beat Vanderbilt 1-0 Saturday to give the Crimson Tide the No. 11 seed. If Alabama had lost, the Tide would have played Arkansas.

Arkansas swept a three-game series from Alabama this season at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, where the Tide played their home games while their stadium in Tuscaloosa is being renovated.
