The Recruiting Guy

Major Razorback target a special talent

It didn’t take long for Snow College offensive line coach Rafe Maughan to realize he had something special in offensive tackle Garett Bolles.

Bolles, 6-5, 303 pounds, 4.87 seconds in the 40-yard dash, has quickly become one of the more highly recruited junior college prospects after playing only one year on the line. Video highlights CLICK HERE

He played linebacker and defensive end at Lehi, (Utah) Westlake High School before attending Snow College in Ephraim, Utah.

“After three or four days of repping of some fundamental stuff, I realized he was pretty special,” Maughan said. “He’s got some tools. His best football is still about two or three years away.”

Arkansas, Alabama, Florida State, Auburn, Oregon and Nebraska are among the almost 20 schools that have extended scholarship offers. Bolles’ desire and ability to get to the second and third level makes him attractive to college coaches.

“As a player, the thing people love right now is that he’s a finisher and so athletic,” Maughan said. “Whoever gets him is going to love the kid.”

Bolles committed to Brigham Young last November, but reopened his recruitment May 1. Maughan said the Hogs are in the mix for Bolles and could receive a visit.

“That’s why he opened his recruitment up for the most part, he wanted to have the opportunity to physically go to these places and get the feel,” Maughan said.

Arkansas offensive line coach Sam Pittman along with numerous other coaches have visited the school.

“Everybody in the country has come through and has watched him this spring,” Maughan said. “Watching film of him doesn’t do it justice, how quick he can get to the second and third level and how much he likes getting out there and being a punisher.”
