UA’s Anderson still has hope for Beard, Thomas

FAYETTEVILLE — Anton Beard and Dustin Thomas are suspended from the Arkansas men’s basketball team, but Coach Mike Anderson hasn’t given up on them.

“They’re actually still a part of our team,” Anderson said Monday. “They’re just not on the team right now.”

Beard and Thomas have been suspended since July 22 when they were arrested in connection with a counterfeit investigation. They have an Oct. 27 trial date on first-degree forgery charges, to which they previously pleaded not guilty.

“I can’t say much about it because of the legal process that’s taking place,” Anderson said. “Then I’ll deal with it after that.

“But those guys are in school and they’re doing the things they’re supposed to do in the classroom right now.”

Anderson said Beard, a sophomore guard and a returning starter, and Thomas, a junior forward who must redshirt this season after transferring from Colorado, are working out on their own.

“Hopefully, they can get that call where they can be reinstated,” Anderson said.
