Bye week no breather for Hog coaches

Arkansas football coach Bret Bielema and his team may have a bye week next, but he and his staff certainly won't be idle.

That's because they will hit the recruiting trail hard while working around a few practices.

"I just filled out my bye week schedule and I am going to leave Sunday night and get back Tuesday morning and I am going to leave Wednesday night and get back Saturday morning," Bielema said. "We are going to practice really hard on Tuesday and Wednesday and then Thursday is going to be a developmental practice (for those redshirting or not playing much).

"I am going to be five nights gone because right now recruiting is going so well and we are bringing in great young players. Someone gave us a stat the other day -- and I don't read a lot of recruiting rankings -- but they had us as a team that addressed needs better than most people in the country and I do think we do that. Where we are going is a pretty exciting part."

The Razorbacks go into the break with 14 commitments after offensive lineman Kellen Diesch of Trophy Club (Texas) Byron Nelson decided to de-commit and reopen his recruiting.

Diecsh wanted to take some official visits, but Arkansas would not allow him to do so and stay committed.

After the break, Arkansas will host several prospects for official visits during the rest of the month as well as a number of unofficial visitors.

The Razorbacks are scheduled to entertain a pair of three-star linebacker pledges in Alexy-Jean Baptiste of Pompano Beach (Fla.) Coconut Creek and De'Jon Harris of Marreo (La.) John Ehret on Oct. 24-26.

The following week Arkansas will welcome in linebacker Jordan Carmouche (6-2, 230) of Manvel, Texas.

D'Vaughn Pennemon (6-0, 205), Carmouche's teammate and an Ole Miss commit, has also said he plans to visit Arkansas officially as well.

The Razorbacks have one hybrid running back in the fold in Pulaski Robinson's T.J. Hammonds, who rushed for a career-high 301 yards in game in late September and is also being looked at as a slot receiver.

Arkansas running back coach Jemal Singleton is very clear that he is looking to recruit backs to come in and play right away as Rawleigh Williams has this season.

"I think it's very important," Singleton said. "I don't want to recruit guys that are coming in with a mindset that they're going to redshirt. We're recruiting guys that can come in and be a factor. I think you see Rawleigh, he's been able to come in and play a significant role for us. I would love to have another guy come in and be able to do the same thing next year.

"It's really a different type of guy. You've got to find a mature guy, a smart guy that can handle coming in year one and playing right away."
