— Shortstop Matt Reynolds has been called up by the New York Mets in the middle of the postseason.

Reynolds will replace Ruben Tejada on the Mets' roster. Tejada broke his leg Saturday in Game 2 of the team's National League Division Series game against the Dodgers when Chase Utley collided with him at second base.

Utley has been suspended two games for the play, but is appealing MLB's ruling.

"It's pretty crazy," Reynolds said Monday. "It's not how I wanted it because of how Ruben got hurt and everything like that, but you know that's what this business is and I'm just excited to be a part of this team and do whatever I can to help this team win."

If he plays, Reynolds would become the second player in the modern era to make his MLB debut in the postseason, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Mark Kiger debuted for the Athletics in the 2006 postseason.

"I really don't feel that nervous," Reynolds said. "I just keep telling myself it's the same game, just a bigger stage."

As a junior at Arkansas, Reynolds was a second-round selection of the Mets in 2012 and spent this season playing for the team's triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas. Reynolds batted .267 with six home runs and 65 RBIs this season.

Following his assignment in Las Vegas, Reynolds traveled to the Mets' spring training facility in Port St. Lucie, Florida, and was training there when he received the call-up.
