NFL report: McFadden carries load for Cowboys

Darren McFadden turned back the clock Sunday.

The former Arkansas running back had 152 yards and one touchdown on 29 carries in the Cowboys’ 27-20 loss to the New York Giants. He also caught two passes for 10 yards.

It was McFadden’s most rushing yards in a game since 2011 and fourth-most in his injury-riddled NFL career.

The performance more than doubled his rushing total for the year, as he had only 129 yards and one touchdown on 37 carries in the Cowboys’ previous five games.

“I thought he was outstanding,” Dallas head coach Jason Garrett told dallascowboys.com. “I think anybody who watched the game had to have been impressed by his performance. You saw him run inside, you saw him run off tackle and you saw him run outside. He made a lot of big plays in the game, he had a lot of dirty runs in the game. Just really, really played a complete football game and that’s a well as we’ve run the football all year long and we have to continue to build on that.”

McFadden’s increase in carries was a result of starting running back Joseph Randle going down with an oblique injury. Randle could miss the Cowboys’ Week 8 game against the Seahawks, but even if he’s healthy, McFadden is expected to start.

Here is a look at how the other 10 former Arkansas players on NFL 53-man rosters performed in Week 7.

Zach Hocker was released by the Saints after missing two field goals in Week 6.

The Chargers placed Darius Philon on short-term injured reserve on Oct. 17. The earliest he can return to a game is Week 14.

Alvin Bailey – Seattle Seahawks

Week 8: 3:25 p.m. Sunday, at Cowboys

Because Gary Gilliam was battling an ankle injury, Bailey rotated with him at right tackle, playing 24 snaps in the Seahawks’ 20-3 win over the 49ers Thursday. One of those snaps came at left tackle, when he replaced Russell Okung for a play, and a few came as an extra tackle in heavy formations.

Knile Davis – Kansas City Chiefs

Week 8: 8:30 a.m. Sunday, vs. Lions (in London)

The Chiefs seem to be committed to Charcandrick West as their No. 2 running back, as Davis had only one carry for two yards in their 23-13 win over the Steelers. However, Davis remains their main kick returner. He had two kickoff returns for 46 yards Sunday.

During the first quarter of the Eagles’ 27-16 loss to the Panthers, Peters had to be carted off the field with what was later determined to be back spasms. However, Philadelphia coach Chip Kelly said he believes he’ll be able to play in Week 9 after a week of rest during the Eagles’ bye.
