Arkansas women look again to Scott

Arkansas cross country runner Dominique Scott crosses the finish line to take first in the College Women's 5000m at the 2015 Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas senior Dominique Scott will be running for her third title in a row at the SEC Cross Country Championships today in College Station, Texas.

Scott has a chance to become the third female to win three consecutive SEC titles, joining Arkansas' Amy Yoder [1997-99] and Auburn's Angela Homan [2003-05].

"Dominique's really excited about trying to put her name in the history books along with Amy Yoder," Arkansas Coach Lance Harter said. "It'd be fantastic. That's rarified air."

Harter said Scott -- a nine-time All-American in cross country and track -- is running better than ever. Last summer she ran 4:08 in the 1,500 meters at a meet in Italy, which Harter said was the fastest time by a collegian during the outdoor season.

"Her range from 1,500 to 10,000 is basically unparalleled," Harter said. "She's truly in a class that's very, very special."

Other top runners for No. 4-ranked Arkansas include freshmen Devin Clark, Sydney Brown and Claudia Verstraten, senior Kaitlin Flattmann, sophomore Kelsey Schrader and juniors Valerie Reina and Regan Ward.

The Razorbacks will be going for their third consecutive SEC title and 16th since joining the conference in the fall of 1991.

"This is what we talked about from way back at camp, the championship part of the season," Harter said. "The SEC gives big trophies, and we want to get one of those of big trophies again.

"If we follow our race plan, we'll make it challenging for everyone else."
