Knile Davis was nearly a hero Thursday.

The former Arkansas running back scored on an 8-yard run with 2:27 left to give the Chiefs a 24-17 lead over the Broncos.

However, Denver scored a touchdown to tie the game with 36 seconds left, then returned a fumble for the game-winning touchdown nine seconds later.

The run increased Davis’ rushing yardage total to only nine yards, on three carries, and gave him 30 all-purpose yards in the game, as he also returned one kickoff 21 yards.

Serving primarily as All-Pro running back Jamaal Charles’ backup, Davis has nine carries for 25 yards, one reception for 12 yards and two kickoff returns for 51 yards so far this season.

Davis and the Chiefs travel to Green Bay to play the Packers in Week 3. The game will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Here is a look at how the other 13 players on NFL 53-man rosters did in Week 2.

Alvin Bailey – Seattle Seahawks

Week 3: 3:25 p.m. Sunday, vs. Bears

Bailey played one offensive snap at right guard when J.R. Sweezy left the game with an injury, but that was his only action on offense in the Seahawks’ 27-17 loss to the Packers. He was also on the field for three special teams snaps.

Trey Flowers – New England Patriots

Week 3: noon Sunday, vs. Jaguars

Flowers was one of the Patriots’ seven inactive players in Sunday’s 40-32 win over the Bills.

Brett Goode – Green Bay Packers

Week 3: 7:30 p.m. Monday, vs. Chiefs

The Packers were 4 of 4 on field goals and 1 of 1 on extra points, while punting three times in their 27-17 win over the Seahawks. Goode was the long snapper on all nine kicks.

Chris Gragg – Buffalo Bills

Week 3: 3:25 p.m. Sunday, at Dolphins

Gragg was one of the Bills’ seven inactive players in Sunday’s 40-32 loss to the Patriots.

Zach Hocker – New Orleans Saints

Week 3: noon Sunday, at Panthers

After a debut in which he made 4 of 4 field goals, Hocker struggled in the Saints’ 26-19 loss to the Buccaneers. He missed his only field goal attempt – a 42-yarder – and was 1 of 2 on extra points, with the missed PAT being blocked.

Ryan Mallett – Houston Texans

Week 3: noon Sunday, vs. Buccaneers

Making his first start of the season, Mallett had limited success in the Texans’ 24-17 loss to the Panthers. He completed 27 of 58 passes (46.6 percent) for 244 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while also running for a 6-yard touchdown.

Darren McFadden – Dallas Cowboys

Week 3: noon Sunday, vs. Falcons

McFadden got a heavier workload in the Cowboys’ 20-10 win over the Eagles, carrying the ball 10 times for 31 yards and catching two passes for 21 yards. He is still the backup, but his 12 touches were more than the seven he had in Week 1.

Jason Peters – Philadelphia Eagles

Week 3: noon Sunday, at Jets

For the second straight week, Peters missed a play with an injury during the Eagles’ 20-10 loss to the Cowboys. He returned to the game, but doesn’t appear to be at 100 percent.

Darius Philon – San Diego Chargers

Week 3: noon Sunday, at Vikings

Philon had two solo tackles, including one for a loss, in the Chargers’ 24-19 loss to the Bengals.

Chris Smith – Jacksonville Jaguars

Week 3: noon Sunday, at Patriots

Smith notched two tackles, including one solo, in the Jaguars’ 23-20 win over the Dolphins.

Martrell Spaight – Washington Redskins

Week 3: 7:25 p.m. Thursday, at Giants

Spaight was one of the Redskins’ seven inactive players for their 24-10 win over the Rams, missing the game with a concussion. He was moved to the injured reserve Tuesday.

Travis Swanson – Detroit Lions

Week 3: 7:30 p.m. Sunday, vs. Broncos

Swanson’s struggles at center continued in the Lions’ 26-16 loss to the Vikings, as he made multiple mistakes, according to MLive.com. However, Detroit offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said he was “outstanding.”

Jarius Wright – Minnesota Vikings

Week 3: noon Sunday, vs. Chargers

While he caught one pass for 17 yards and rushed once for 29 yards, Wright’s arguably biggest contribution in the Vikings’ 26-16 win over the Lions was as a blocker. He did a nice job blocking on the outside and allowing Adrian Peterson to get extra yards in the secondary.
