Men's, women's golf move up 3 spots

No. 23 Arkansas had the round of the day, a 3-over 283, to move from seventh place to fourth Saturday at the SEC Men’s Golf Championships at Sea Island Golf Club at St. Simons Island, Ga.

After trailing the leaders by 11 shots following the opening round, Arkansas closed the gap during the second and enters today’s final round just five shots off the pace. Kentucky continues to lead the field at 6 over for the championship, while No. 4 Georgia (+8) is second, Texas A&M (+10) is third and Arkansas (+11) fourth.

Arkansas senior Taylor Moore is tied for third overall at even par (140) and just two shots behind the leader. Freshman Charles Kim is tied for 18th with a 4-over 144. Sophomore Alvaro Ortiz matched Kim’s 3-over 73 Saturday and sits tied for 28th at 6 over (146). Senior Nicolas Echavarria followed up an opening round 72 with a 4-over 74 and is tied with Ortiz. Senior Kolton Crawford had a 1-under 69 and is tied for 33rd with a 7-over 147.

Fassi, Uriell lead Arkansas women

The eighth-ranked Arkansas women moved from eighth place to fifth Saturday at the SEC Golf Championships behind a pair of second-round 71s from freshman Maria Fassi and sophomore Alana Uriell at the Legacy Course in Birmingham, Ala.

The two paced the Razorbacks to a second-round 294, six shots better than Friday, as Arkansas sits 16 shots behind leaders No. 1 Alabama and No. 7 Florida. Arkansas is four strokes out of third place behind No. 25 Texas A&M.

Fassi is tied for 11th place overall at 2-over 146. Uriell is tied for 24th overall at 6-over 150 along with teammates senior Regina Plasencia and freshman Cara Gorlei. Senior Summar Roachell is at 15-over 159 and tied for 58th overall.
