The Recruiting Guy

Bentonville sophomore has serious skills

Kam'ron Mays-Hunt, Bentonville wide receiver, evades Springdale defenders in the second quarter on Friday Oct. 16, 2015 during the game in Bentonville's Tiger Stadium.

Bentonville receiver Kam’ron Mays-Hunt is one of the more physically gifted sophomores in the state and should see his share of interest from colleges.

“He’s a very talented wide receiver, but I’m not so sure he couldn’t be a big-time safety,” said Bentonville Coach Jody Grant. “We play him at safety some in certain games and certain situations. He’s very aggressive, breaks on the ball well and does so much defensively.”

Mays-Hunt, 6-0, 165, 4.56 seconds in the 40 yard dash, recorded 53 receptions for 556 yards and 7 touchdowns this past season and was named the All-Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Newcomer of the Year.

“He’s a guy that can run smooth routes,” Grant said. “We don’t try to over coach him because he’s just so naturally gifted. He has great speed and his hands are good. He’s just a natural to the game.”

“I think he has a chance to be one of the best ones we’ve had around here.”

Arkansas, Auburn and Arkansas State are showing early interest in Mays-Hunt. He visited the Hogs on Saturday and was able to meet two key Razorbacks and receivers coach Michael Smith.

“To me, the highlight was meeting Drew Morgan and Keon Hatcher and the receivers coach,” Mays-Hunt said. “They were pretty cool.”

Smith kept things loose.

“He told a lot of jokes,” Mays-Hunt said.

Mays-Hunt found Morgan and Hatcher to be easygoing.

“I thought they were uptight and stuff, but they’re actually pretty cool and laid-back,” Mays-Hunt said.

He enjoyed watching the Hogs scrimmage from the sidelines.

“It was pretty cool, because I haven’t done that before,” Mays-Hunt said. “It was overwhelming.”
