Texas TE agrees to walk on at Arkansas

Arkansas tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. directs his players during practice Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.

Tight end Brandon DePrato announced on Wednesday his intentions to walk-on at Arkansas despite having D-I scholarship offers from Bryant University and San Diego.

DePrato, 6-4, 222 pounds of Cypress, (Texas) Cypress Woods visited the Hogs in late January and that led to his pledge.

“The overall feel of the university and how Coach (Bret) Bielema treats walk-ons,” DePrato said. “I feel it will make a great home and I hope I can make an impact and help the team to the best of ability.”

The Razorbacks have several prospects committed to be preferred walk-ons. DePrato will likely wait until schools starts in the fall before joining the Hogs.

“Not an official preferred, because they already had so many, but coaches believe I can make a difference on the team,” he said.

DePrato, who was timed at 4.65 seconds in the 40 yard dash at a camp at Rice, also played outside linebacker this past season, but will focus on offense.

“I can’t wait to be a Razorback,” DePrato said.
