Louisiana recruiting ace Smith on LSU fan video: It's a compliment

Arkansas receivers coach Michael Smith answers questions during the Razorbacks' annual media day on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, at Fred W. Smith Center in Fayetteville.

— Arkansas receivers coach Michael Smith got a chuckle out of the LSU fan video that calls the Razorbacks "poachers" for their success recruiting in Louisiana.

Smith, a New Orleans native and the Hogs' main recruiter in Louisiana, said a staffer showed him the video. It brought a big smile to his face.

"If he believes I'm poaching my own state, then that's what it is," Smith said. "I take it as a compliment that they are paying attention."

In the video, the fan mentions Arkansas signing linebacker Giovanni LaFrance from St. Augustine High School in New Orleans. He quips even people from the city don't know how to find the school, located in the heart of the city.

But Smith said he knows plenty about the school because it was his father's alma mater.

"I know it very well," Smith said. "They were also in the Catholic league - the league I played in."

LSU reportedly tried to poach Smith earlier this year to fill its vacancy at receivers coach. Arkansas responded by giving Smith a pay raise to $400,000 per year.
