Future Arkansas QB Daulton Hyatt gets season underway

Attalla (Ala.) Etowah class of 2017 quarterback Daulton Hyatt was offered by Arkansas on Saturday, March 5, 2016.

— A future Arkansas quarterback got his senior season off on a losing note Friday, but that hasn’t changed any of his goals.

Atalla, Ala., Etowah signal caller Daulton Hyatt (6-4, 182) was 13 of 18 passing for 237 yards with two touchdowns and also rushed 7 times for 48 yards and another scorer in his team’s 48-33 loss to Southside.

“Our offense started slowly and I think if we had been able to get any points on our first three drives it would have changed the whole dynamic and momentum of the game,” said Hyatt, a three-star prospect per ESPN.com.

“But this game will not define our season. I know we are a very good team and I still expect to be playing in the state championship game at the end of the year.”

Hyatt led his team on three straight scoring drives to turn a 28-7 deficit into a one-point one, but a big special teams play regained the momentum for Southside in the second half and they went on to the victory.

“I think I played pretty good individually, but you can always get better,” noted Hyatt, who had one interception on the night. “I had a couple of throws I would like to have back, but I think for the most part I made good reads and good throws.”

Hyatt, who committed to the Razorbacks on March 12, chose Arkansas over Miami, Louisville, West Virginia, Maryland, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Illinois and Syracuse.

He threw for 2,250 yards with 16 touchdowns and rushed for 781 yards and eight more scores as a sophomore at, who Arab struggled to a 1-9 campaign last season.

Hyatt, who transferred to Etowah this past spring, plans to attend some Arkansas games this fall, but has not as of yet chosen those contests.

“I’m really happy to be a Razorback and am looking forward to the team having a great season,” Hyatt said. “I think I am coming to a great program.”
