Hogs name 4 seniors team captains

— Arkansas coach Bret Bielema announced team captains to begin his statewide radio show Thursday night. The team vote elected linebacker Brooks Ellis, defensive end Deatrich Wise, offensive tackle Dan Skipper and running back Kody Walker.

Ellis, four-year starter from Fayetteville, will be team captain for the second straight season. Walker is a sixth-year player after getting a medical hardship from the NCAA after injuries in multiple seasons. All four players are seniors.

JaMichael Winston, the team's other defensive captain last season, is also still on the team.

Bielema said the team has avoided injuries in the last week. Senior wide receiver Dominique Reed has practiced the last two days after sustaining “a high ankle sprain” in the first scrimmage of fall camp. He was not expected back until next week.

“Dominique has looked amazing the last two days,” Bielema said. “We'll hold him out Friday (in a mock game practice). He's looked as quick as a hiccup. It was a high ankle sprain with significant swelling, but he's back. We are going to hold him out tomorrow just as a precaution.”

Bielema said Adam McFain had won the kickoff job and was solid in the last test this week with booming kicks deep in the end zone.

“We've worked hard on the kicking game in this camp,” Bielema said. “We've probably worked five times more on protections (on extra points and field goals) in this camp.”

Skipper (first), Ellis (second) and Wise (third) were also named to the coaches' preseason all-SEC team Thursday. Arkansas' other third-team selections were receiver Drew Morgan, offensive lineman Frank Ragnow and tight end Jeremy Sprinkle.
