— A longtime defensive coordinator has joined Arkansas' staff as an analyst.

Wally Burnham is the Razorbacks' defensive analyst this season, a team spokesperson confirmed. Burnham, 74, retired from full-time coaching last November after a seven-year stint as defensive coordinator at Iowa State.

At Arkansas, he reunites with Paul Rhoads, the Razorbacks' secondary coach who was fired as Iowa State's head coach last year.

According to the Des Moines Register, Burnham's primary role is to work with the Razorbacks' offense to help it prepare for opposing defenses.

“It’s not a hell of a lot of responsibility,” Burnham told the Register. “It’s a lot of fun. I’m enjoying it."

Burnham has more than 50 years experience as an assistant coach. He has won national championships working for Bear Bryant at Alabama and Bobby Bowden at Florida State. Prior to his time at Iowa State, he had stints as a defensive coordinator at South Florida and South Carolina.

Earlier this year, Arkansas hired former Montana State head coach Rob Ash as an offensive analyst.
