Florida prep DE Jordan Wright has eye-opening visit to Arkansas

Arkansas put itself in great position this weekend to land one of Florida’s top high school defensive ends.

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Dillard three-star defensive end Jordan Wright (6-6, 230), who is also considering Michigan and Miami, took his official visit with the Razorbacks and left impressed.

“It was more than I expected,” Wright said. “It is very nice up here. The environment was nice and the catfish restaurant (Catfish Hole) was as well. I love the fans.”

Wright, who had 30 tackles and 5 sacks this season along with 3 forced fumbles and 6 touchdowns at tight end, had former Dillard stars and current Razorbacks Randy Ramsey and Joshua Williams as his official hosts.

“(Ramsey) just told me that you don’t have to worry about getting in trouble and that you just come up and handle business and just mind yours,” Wright said.

Wright got his offer from Arkansas in October 2015 and also has ones from Alabama, Michigan, Florida, Miami, Michigan State, USC Kentucky - where he visited in September - and others.

He is also an outstanding basketball player who averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds last season while leading his team to the Class 6A state title and has 10 scholarship offers in that sport, including ones from Virginia Tech and UNC-Wilmington.

Wright did tweet out this weekend that it was cold in Fayetteville, but said that wasn’t a deal breaker.

“It’s not a negative at all,” Wright said. “I just know that if I come up here, I have got to get used to it and toughen up.”

Wright, who noted he has great relationships with Arkansas coach Bret Bielema and linebackers coach Vernon Hargreaves, has not set up the dates for his visits to Miami or Michigan just yet.

“As of now, I don’t have any other officials yet,” Wright said. “I am considering the University of Miami and Michigan so I am still thinking.”

The visit to Arkansas - along with last Tuesday’s home visit with Bielema and Hargreaves - put the Razorbacks in the driver’s seat at this point.

“It gave them a good chance,” Wright said.

His timetable for choosing a college isn’t specific.

“Either early January or signing day,” Wright said.
